As the founding CTO of MovieLabs, Jim helped establish the Hollywood studio joint venture and has worked on a wide range of projects related to digital content distribution. Jim led the original design, implementation and deployment of the Entertainment Identifier Registry (EIDR). He currently leads MovieLabs work on high dynamic range and wide color gamut video, security and EIDR’s technical development. Prior to joining MovieLabs, Jim was chief software architect at Liberate Technologies where he led the design of systems for delivering interactive cable services. Jim has also worked and consulted widely on software architecture, graphics and image processing, and intellectual property. Jim has Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in Applied Physics from Stanford University and a B.A. in Physics and Math from Washington University.
